How Can Someone With Health Problems Get Term Life Insurance at a Reasonable Price?
Term life insurance is an affordable and practical way that many people get short term coverage in order to have financial peace of mind before their savings accounts have as much money as they would like. Term life insurance provides death benefits, although unlike permanent life insurance it does not have a guaranteed payout.
As with many other types of insurance, however, it can be difficult to get term life insurance at an affordable rate if you have a history of health problems or have just been diagnosed with a condition. People who have health problems often need the peace of mind that comes with term life insurance, but will often either be denied coverage or will have to pay up to three times as much as someone without health problems will pay.
There are options, however, that people with health problems can explore in order to save money on their term life insurance policies. The first way is to consider a guaranteed policy – indeed, if you have serious health issues it may be your only option for insurance coverage. A second way is to look into policies that are connected with other institutions that you use, such as your credit union. Third, it is possible that an insurance company that you already use for automobile insurance, etc. may offer discounts for a choosing a life insurance policy with them. Fourth, and less common, is to find an insurance company that will not penalize you for a certain illness.
Costs of Long Term Care
Long-term care has the potential to be very costly. The amount you spend will depend on the level of services you need, the length of time you need them, and the type of care you receive. It may depend on regional or geographical factors as well.
Home care is slightly less expensive, but only marginally. Bringing an aide into your home three times a week to help with dressing, bathing, preparing meals, etc, can cost up to $1,000 a month. If you add skilled help, such as a therapist or nurse, it can be much more expensive. For this reason many people choose to pay slightly more for long-term care rather than pay a steep cost for services that don’t have as many benefits to the patient.
On average, the monthly fee for assisted living facilities is around $2,000. This does include rent and any other fees. If your care needs are higher, you may pay slightly more fees than average.
Long-term care is generally paid for by the patient who is receiving the care. It is typically not paid for by your health insurance, regardless of the plan. Neither Medicare or Medicaid cover long-term care. There are around 100 companies currently that offer Long-term care coverage.
It is generally available through groups as well as individuals. Group insurance is usually offered through employers, and is more of a common benefit. Individual long-term care insurance is typically for those who are not employed, or work for a small company that doesn’t offer a plan. Self-employed people would also want to choose this option.
